The Kitchen

I tried to come up with a snappy title for this post, but sometimes it's just better to keep things simple and call it what it is. If anyone has been keeping track, we have been without a kitchen for over a year now. We have been cooking on a two-burner hot plate (we're on our third!) and in a Crock-Pot. And, snow or shine, we have put our Weber grill to great use. I wonder if I will ever shovel snow again to grill a hamburger when I have a stove on which to incinerate it in a cast iron skillet? Don't get excited - we don't yet have a new stove. Well, we do, but it's in a warehouse waiting for it's big delivery date. That date is yet to be determined. I'm just saying, will I ever trek out into the snow to cook dinner when there is a perfectly good cooking apparatus shining in the warm confines of a nice new kitchen? Things to ponder. So. Autumn Leaves

About a week or so ago, just before all the digging started in the north yard, Tom and Mickey went out where it isn't soggy and played in the leaves. Once I got home from work, I joined in. It was a glorious fall evening with fun had by all. Running and jumping: Burying and hiding:

I Walk

I walk. But of course I do. I have since before I was one year old, but now I walk with more of a purpose than just getting from here to there. I'm walking for my health. I'm walking to save my life. Well, that sounds dramatic. What I mean is, my doctor has pointed out that my blood pressure has been trending up and my good cholesterol has been trending down while my bad cholesterol has been trending up. And what with a family history of high blood pressure, heart disease, clogged arteries and diabetes, I can't go through the world anymore as if I were invincible. As with these other maladies, my weight has been trending up as well, and has been for a good number of years. Doc says that while the proverbial "they" go back and forth about diet, the one thing that is certain when it comes to good health and longevity is, as he put it, "to get skinny." I used to run.
